GEORGE SMITH

General George Smith Jr. recently retired to Wilmington after serving over 38 years as a Marine Corps officer.  His most recent assignments were: Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Deputy Commandant of the Marine Corps for Plans, Policies and Operations, and Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force, the largest Marine Air-Ground Task Force in the Marine Corps.  He is a 1985 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
